If you read the official NTA circulars, you will probably end up with a headache. Let’s cut the fluff. If you are preparing for the NCET 2026 to secure your ITEP seat, here is the exact blueprint of the battlefield.
The Exam Pattern: 160 Questions to Your Dream College You will be facing a computer-based test (CBT) divided into four distinct sections. You have to attempt 160 questions out of a total of 181.
Section 1: Languages (33 Questions) You choose two languages. It’s mostly reading comprehension, basic grammar, and vocabulary. Pro-tip: Don’t overthink this. If your English/Hindi is decent, just practice a few mock passages to get your speed up.
Section 2: Domain-Specific Subjects (75 Questions) You pick three subjects related to your stream (e.g., Physics, Chemistry, Math). This is strictly based on the Class 12 NCERT syllabus.
Section 3: General Test (25 Questions) This is where many students panic because it sounds so broad. It includes:
- General Knowledge & Current Affairs (Last 6 months)
- General Mental Ability & Logical Reasoning
- Quantitative Reasoning (Basic 8th-grade math concepts)
Section 4: Teaching Aptitude (27 Questions) – The Dealbreaker This is mandatory for everyone. It tests your psychological readiness to be a modern teacher. You need to know the basics of the NEP 2020, inclusive education, and classroom management.
